Ways to help

Volunteer support that fits the mission

We welcome people who care about elders and can serve with patience, respect, and reliability. Some volunteer work may happen in person, and some may be administrative or outreach support from a computer or phone.

  • Companionship visits and friendly check-ins
  • Phone follow-up with families who ask for support
  • Help documenting stories, photos, and elder memories with permission
  • Local outreach to churches, senior centers, community groups, and families
  • Administrative help with donor thank-yous, records, and resource lists

Community service

Hours should be documented carefully.

  1. Volunteer completes a simple intake request and explains what kind of service hours they need.
  2. Legacy confirms whether the volunteer role is appropriate, safe, and connected to the nonprofit mission.
  3. The volunteer records dates, start and end times, tasks, and location or remote activity.
  4. A Legacy supervisor reviews the record before hours are approved.
  5. Legacy may issue a signed verification letter for completed hours, but the outside school, court, or agency decides whether to accept it.

Hour letters

Legacy may issue a signed letter showing completed dates, hours, and tasks. The school, court, or agency requesting service hours decides whether the hours count for its program.
